Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your HEART, whether or not you would keep his commands.
Deuteronomy 8:2
To those of us who are trying to lose weight, it almost seems like a walk through the desert. We’ve got a place we want to get to, but the path leading there seems awfully dry. There’s so much we have to give up on the journey to heart-health, and it’s all-too-tempting to turn back to the captivity of eating the wrong things and living a sedentary life. Oftentimes captivity is easier than walking through the desert.
But God purposely leads us through dry lands so we learn to turn to Him. We can’t possibly make it through on our own. I can’t possibly get in shape on my own. I don’t have it in me. I don’t have the determination or the willpower.
But with God walking beside me?
That, I know I can do.

Oh, the flesh is so weak but so demanding. It’s a dry, hard road sometimes . . .
Yes, it is …
I’m so very glad I can walk that dry road with God.
Hi Brenda,
I happened upon this verse in Romans 8 last week that really spoke to me on this struggle. “…but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live…” Not in our own strength, but the Spirits.
Thank you, Sandra. What a perfect verse for not only this struggle, but for whatever anyone struggles with, for everyone’s thorn in the flesh.
