I've been privileged to be a sensitivity reader for a couple of books featuring dementia. I love it that authors strive to get the situations right. One difficulty in offering help is that no people present the disease in the same way; not within the spectrum of dementia or even within Alzheimer's. So, I'll often say, "Here's my experience..." or "Here's what I would do in that situation..."And I've had too much experience with the disease: my mom had dementia, my FIL had Alzheimer's, and now my husband has early-onset Alzheimer's (which is different from regular Alzheimer's, so my husband's Alz isn't necessarily genetic.)All that said, I found Janine Rosche, Author's THE ROAD BEFORE US—a road trip on Route 66!—a compelling story that presented dementia in a believable and not stereotypical way. Also, as traveling Route 66 is on my bucket list, I was able to take the road through story.#ENDALZ #dementiafiction #AlzheimersAwarenessMonthDual time * Road Trip * Route 66 ... See MoreSee Less

A FLICKER OF LIGHT by Author Katie Powner tackles dementia in a unique way, by stepping inside the mind of someone with the disease. As always, Powner excels in telling a story that goes deep to the heart and isn't afraid to be authentic with her characters.About A Flicker of Light:Twenty-one-year-old Bea never expected to move back to her hometown in Montana, especially not as a college dropout with a husband in tow and a baby on the way. She insists the stay at her dad's is only temporary, until she can get back on her feet. But the truth is, she has no idea what to do now.Mitch Jensen is thrilled to have a full house again, though he's unimpressed by Bea's greenhorn of a husband. Mitch hopes to convince Bea to return to school, but she's changed since her mom died. Everything has changed. How will he take care of everyone all by himself?Grandma June is good at telling stories . . . and keeping secrets. But she can't hide that her mind is going much longer. If she doesn't tell the truth about her past before her memories fade away, someone she loves will suffer. But if she does, the lives of three generations of the Jensen family will never be the same. Prodigal daughter * family secrets * family drama ... See MoreSee Less

Stacy M Monson Author released OPEN CIRCLE in 2018 when Alzheimer's was a grave concern on my husband's horizon but not yet a diagnosis. In thStacy Monsonvel, Stacy introduced a concept that was new to me at that time, Adult Day Care, which is a tremendous gift to caregivers and our loved ones alike. (There are just too few of them!)You'll love visiting Open Circle (the senior adult day center) and journeying with Minnie, Jackson, and Grandma Em, while getting a close look at dementia and caregiving and sacrificial love walking hand-in-hand. ...
